Arts in the Community

The Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney (MCA) invited Sunnyfield to celebrate the 2014 Bella Room Installation.

Bella is MCA’s free program for people with specific needs, including physical, intellectual, emotional or behavioural disabilities. Each year an artist is commissioned to create an interactive installation for the Bella Room, a unique multisensory space. The ‘Beat in Me’ live performance and video work has been a collaboration with Sunnyfield artist Basil and choreographer Kay Armstrong. They created a video performance installation that is built upon Basil’s innate rhythmic abilities, his dance improvisations and his love of music and performance.

Presented as both projected image and live performance, the work is dynamic and urban with images shot around Basil’s favourite Inner Western streets of Sydney. The work celebrates a 2 year creative relationship that has been made possible by the Sunnyfield Marrickville HATCH program.
