Manly Sea Eagles and Sunnyfield Launch Active August

On the 4th of August, Manly Sea Eagles stars held a special training session for Sunnyfield clients to help launch our Active August campaign, which promotes a healthy lifestyle for all bodies. Sea Eagles stars Jamie Buhrer, Michael Chee Kam, Tyson Andrews and Keiren Foran joined Sunnyfield players for warm-up drills on Allambie Oval, followed by a fun, spirited touch footy game.
Super-fit Annalise was a natural out on the field with the professional athletes. She also swims, plays tennis, does hip hop, jazz and ten pin bowling. “I watch the Sea Eagles games on Friday nights,” said Annalise. “Today I did a tackle like they do in real football and I was trying to find the gaps so players could pass to me. I’m very active and fit. I love playing sports.” Kyle also plays for the NSW Physical Disability Rugby League Association and had impressive speed and ball handling on the field. Both Annalise and Kyle were given special game balls from the Sea Eagles to take home.
The Sea Eagles were impressed by all the Sunnyfield players having a go and enjoying themselves. “There was some speed and a couple of good tackles,” said Jamie. “Annalise did one rib rattler on Tony halfway through that had the crowd going wild. It was the best tackle of the year! We had Kyle running 100 metre try’s. The guys were fantastic and really got into the game. It doesn’t matter if you’re a professional athlete or not – being active and keeping fit is vitally important for everyone.”
After the training session, Sunnyfield clients chatted with their sports heroes; getting high fives and hugs and having their posters and hats signed. “I’ve been a fan of the Sea Eagles since I was a kid,” said Sunnyfield client, Cathy. “My Dad Merv McCann played for the team from 1947 to 1952 and I love watching them play.” Tony shared a wealth of footy stats with the guys. “Jamie Lyon is my favourite Sea Eagles player,” he said. “There’s no way Manly will ever get rid of him.” Danielle enjoyed learning new skills and meeting the players. “It’s awesome that the guys from the Sea Eagles came out to see us. It’s been a fun day and I liked playing footy with them.”
