How do I access funding?

Ageing, Disability & Home Care (ADHC) – is part of the NSW Department of Family & Community Services (FACS) and is responsible for providing funding, services and support to older people, people with a disability and their families and carers. Long term group home placements, respite and community participation packages are allocated through ADHC.

The Department of Social Services – (Formerly known as FaHCSIA) is the Australian Government’s main source of advice on social policy. This department is responsible for Supported Employment through Australian Disability Enterprises (ADE’s).

National Disability Insurance Scheme – People with disability in the Hunter region can now access the National Disability Insurance Scheme, which is a Federal scheme and primary funder of disability supports in Australia by 2018. Click here to learn more on our website.

General Information and Advocacy

National Disability Services (NDS) – is the national industry association for disability services, representing 700 non-government organisations. These are also available in a number of languages to access please view here.

UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability – this document details the rights of people with disability, according to participating countries of the United Nations and sets out a code of implementation.

Family Advocacy – have a vision of families being agents of positive social change and develop and support advocacy by families by strengthening knowledge.

Intellectual Disability Rights Service (IDRS) – a specialist legal advocacy service for people with intellectual disability in NSW.

NSW Council for Intellectual Disability – the peak organisation in NSW representing the interests of people with intellectual disability.

Disability Online – provides a link to disability resources and events from over Australia.

Planning Resources

InControl Australia – works in partnership with InControl UK to share information, research, stories and tools for use in self-directed funding.

Planning for the Future Booklet – this booklet is part of an information package developed by the Australian Government to assist families planning for the future of their family member with disability.
