Vale Bryan Whiddon OAM
Patron Bryan Whiddon OAM, who sadly passed away in 2024, was made an Honorary Life Member for the tremendous contribution he made to our organisation over seven decades.
We would not be the organisation we are today without his energy, ideas, professionalism and commitment to people with disability and their families.
Sunnyfield began with the initiative of Bryan’s parents, Hazel and Fred Whiddon, who brought together 18 other like-minded mothers and fathers who wanted to create a better life for their children, like Bryan’s brother Trevor.
Bryan went on to serve Sunnyfield in many roles, including as Chair.
The family’s record of service to Sunnyfield continues through his daughter, Melissa Hammel, a member of our Board of Directors, and his grandson Thomas Perrett as an Associate of the Board’s Audit, Finance and Risk Committee.
Air Chief Marshal Sir Angus Houston AK, AFC (Ret’d)
Sunnyfield is proud to have Air Chief Marshal Sir Angus Houston AK, AFC (Ret’d) as our Patron, appointed in December 2011 by Caroline Cuddihy, Bryan Whiddon and John O’Connell, and endorsed by the Board on 6 December that year.
Sir Angus brings a lifetime of leadership and service to his role. He was Chief of the Australian Defence Force from 2005 to 2011, following his tenure as Chief of Air Force. His 41-year military career is marked by dedication, integrity and commitment to community and national service.
In January 2015, Sir Angus was appointed a Knight of the Order of Australia for extraordinary achievement and service to the nation. He continues to lead through his current roles, including Chair of the Murray–Darling Basin Authority, Chancellor of the University of the Sunshine Coast and Chair of the Canberra Symphony Orchestra.
Sunnyfield is honoured to have Sir Angus as a Patron, sharing our vision of creating inclusive communities where people with disability can live, learn, work and belong.
