Margareth’s Journey: Building a Career and Community at Sunnyfield

September 19, 2025

For Margareth, working in the disability sector isn’t just a career choice; it’s a calling. With over 14 years’ experience in community services, she’s committed to supporting people with disability to live more independent and fulfilling lives.

Before joining Sunnyfield three years ago, Margareth volunteered in women’s shelters and explored different areas of community work before finding her place in disability support. When the opportunity came to lead her own team in a Sunnyfield group home for women with diverse disabilities, she knew it was the perfect fit.

“I wanted to create a space where clients feel respected, supported, and encouraged to achieve their goals, big or small,” said Margareth.

In her role as a Home and Lifestyle Leader in Sunnyfield’s Cluster North Sydney region, no two days are ever the same. Mornings begin with checking on clients’ wellbeing and planning the day ahead—coordinating appointments, running errands, connecting with families, and working alongside other support staff. But for Margareth, it’s the everyday achievements that matter most. Whether it’s seeing a client complete a walk they’ve been working towards, make their own coffee, tidy their room, or visit somewhere new, each milestone is a shared success.

Sunnyfield has offered Margareth both challenges and opportunities for growth. She credits her Operations Manager, fellow leaders, and her team for their ideas, problem-solving support, and encouragement. Professional development opportunities, such as recent leadership training sessions, have helped her refine her management style and gain new tools to support her clients and team more effectively.

“I’ve learned to embrace different perspectives and bring them together in ways that create fair, practical solutions. It’s about making sure everyone is heard and supported.”

What motivates Margareth most is knowing she’s advocating for people who rely on others to ensure their voices are heard. She’s proud of how far her clients have come and is currently studying a Mental Health course to build even more skills. From birthday celebrations and Halloween parties to concerts and special outings, Margareth makes sure every experience in the home fosters connection, joy, and belonging.

“Sunnyfield isn’t just where I work; it’s where I get to make a real difference every day.”
