Leading Conversations That Matter: Cervical Screening Education at Sunnyfield

October 3, 2025

At Sunnyfield, we believe in creating safe and inclusive spaces where people with disability can access important health information, ask questions, and build the confidence to make informed choices. Recently, we had the privilege of partnering with Family Planning Australia and the ScreenEQUAL Project team to host education sessions at our Western Sydney and Northern Beaches offices, focused on cervical screening .

Informing and Empowering Participants

The session materials were co-produced alongside people with lived experience  and aimed to inform and educate participants about cervical screening. The inclusive and accessible session supported participants to understand what screening involves, why it matters, and how to access services.

Participants joined in a safe environment, with space to learn, share, and ask questions. This collaborative approach not only provided valuable knowledge but also empowered everyone to take ownership of their health and wellbeing.

Collaboration in Action

We extend our sincere thanks to the dedicated team from Family Planning Australia and the ScreenEQUAL Project, and Sam Frain Head of Customer Experience and Innovation for presenting and championing this initiative. Sam’s leadership and passion made the session both engaging and impactful, ensuring participants left with practical knowledge and greater confidence.

Why This Matters

For many people with disability, conversations around health can be difficult or even  overlooked. From the limited research available, we know people with intellectual disability participate in cervical cancer screening (testing) less than people who do not have an intellectual disability. In Australia, almost three-quarters of people who develop cervical cancer are not up to date with screening or have never-screened. Research undertaken by the ScreenEQUAL Project learned about barriers for people with intellectual disability to screening, which included, fear and anxiety, not understanding the information about the test and not knowing about their test choices (including that now many people can do the test themselves). By creating inclusive learning opportunities like this, Sunnyfield is proud to help break down barriers, promote equity, and ensure every person has access to safe, clear, and respectful health guidance.

Looking Ahead

This initiative reflects Sunnyfield’s commitment to leading conversations that matter. By partnering with organisations like Family Planning Australia and the Screen EQUAL, we are continuing to build communities where people with disability can live, learn, work, and belong.
