Volunteering is good for you and the community
Your efforts will make a difference
Volunteering with Sunnyfield has many positive benefits beyond your contribution to the community and donating your time and talent to a good cause. Whatever your motivation, you can be sure that your efforts will make a real difference!
Types of Volunteer positions
Event Volunteering - Sunnyfield hosts a number of events and requires the assistance of volunteers to help our dedicated team ensure that the event runs smoothly and efficiently. In some cases this may be a fundraising event.
Common roles include:
- Set Up / Clean Up
- Pre-event assistance i.e. administration
Peer Support Program - Develop a relationship with a person we support by assisting them in their hobbies i.e. attending local football games, participating in swimming and fitness activities, going out for coffee or lunch – the opportunities are endless. There are so many people supported by Sunnyfield that would like to do the things they enjoy – by participating in the Peer Support Program, you can make this happen for one person.
Maintenance - Do you like undertaking renovations? Fixing things up? Giving your surroundings a facelift? Our small maintenance team of 3 could do with your help. With over 50 sites across NSW, you can help by painting a room, repairing furniture or being a general handy man at one of our sites. Your help will allow the staff and people we support to be working in a safe and nicely presented site.
Accommodation Services Volunteer - Sunnyfield Housing & Support provides accommodation for people with a disability to enable them to live in a variety of settings depending on the differing levels of support needed. In this area, Volunteers support residents to experience different activities and interests within their chosen environment.
Day Options Volunteer - Sunnyfield Day Options are one of the leaders in New South Wales, providing a range of centre-based and community-based activities and programs for the people we support. Day Options Volunteers assist the people we support with activities such as reading, computer programs, exercise, gardening, cooking, music, art and craft, swimming, movies, shopping and other areas of interest.
Supported Employment Service Volunteers - Sunnyfield is a leader in the Australian Disability Enterprises (ADE) market in providing supported employment for people with a disability as well as a range of affordable services to the community. Supported Employment Service Volunteers support employees in performing their work, encouraging positive work and social related behaviour, and clerical administrative tasks.
Administration - If you’re an organised person who enjoys administrative tasks, our office based staff often need help with jobs such as database entry, filing, telephone calls and in some cases, assisting in the set up of processes. Working in a friendly and helpful environment you will meet professional people and gain the opportunity to learn and share ideas and skills.
Who can volunteer?
Anyone can volunteer to experience the rewards and fun that volunteering has to offer. Sunnyfield is always looking for supportive and reliable volunteers, no matter how much or how little time you're able to spare. Anyone over 18 years of age who is interested in supporting people with a disability can volunteer. No special skills or qualifications are necessary.
The Volunteer Selection Process includes an informal interview and completion of an application form. As part of the application process you will need to undergo a NSW Police Check and possibly a 'Working With Children Check'.
