Karen Ingram BA, LLB (Hons) , MDR
Karen is a partner at law firm Clayton Utz and joined the Board in 2014. Karen is also in charge of Clayton Utz’ Community Connect volunteering and in-kind support program in Sydney. This program develops and maintains relationships between the partners and staff of Clayton Utz and a number of not-for-profit organisations, including Sunnyfield, in the areas of volunteering, in-kind support and foundation grants. Karen says “After meeting members of Sunnyfield’s leadership team and visiting a number of clients at one of the residential sites through my work with Clayton Utz, I grew to admire Sunnyfield’s work and philosophy. I was delighted to be offered the opportunity to put the skills I deploy as a lawyer, a leader and an adviser to good use for an organisation whose work I admire and with whom I feel and affinity.” Karen assumed the role of Chair of the Sunnyfield Board in February 2016 and is also a member of the Human Resources, Nomination and Remuneration Committee and the Audit, Finance and Risk Committee.
Dr. John Carter AO BSc (Med), M.B.B.S., M.D., F.R.A.C.P.
John is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Sydney. He is a past-President of the Australian Diabetes Society and was Chairman of the Commonwealth Ministerial Advisory Committee on Diabetes. He was made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2000 for services to diabetes and endocrinology. In addition he is Chairman of the Cromehurst Foundation. John was appointed to the Sunnyfield Board in August 2011 and is also Chair of the Fundraising, Branding and Communications Committee. John’s daughter, Sophie, attends Sunnyfield services and he is passionate about the future for people with disability.
Ian Fraser FCPA, FAICD
Ian has over 40 years’ experience in varied industries in Australia, South East Asia and the USA. Senior management positions held include Managing Director Pioneer Sugar Mills Ltd, Managing Director Clyde Industries Ltd, Managing Director TNT Australia and Managing Director Australian Chemical Holdings Ltd. In 1998, Ian became a professional Non-Executive Director and has served on over fifteen Company Boards. He is presently a Non-Executive Director of Legend Corporation Limited. Ian has been involved in the disability sector for many years as the Treasurer of The Cromehurst Foundation since 1999 and joined the Sunnyfield Board in 2013. Ian’s son, Robert, works at Sunnyfield Enterprises in Chatswood and given the significant changes that the Industry now faces Ian wanted to help Sunnyfield to meet those challenges and continue to grow for the benefit of our members. Ian is also a member of the Audit, Finance and Risk Committee and the Fundraising, Branding and Communications Committee.
Melissa Hammel RN, Dip. Mgmt
Melissa is the Health Manager at Cerebral Palsy Alliance and manages their high health needs facility. Melissa is a Registered Nurse, with qualifications in Management, Palliative Care, Disability and Aged Care. She is the niece of former Sunnyfield resident Trevor Whiddon, and the daughter of Sunnyfield Patron, Bryan Whiddon OAM. Melissa has grown up immersed in Sunnyfield having witnessed firsthand the amazing work her grandparents, Fred and Hazel Whiddon did to help start Sunnyfield, creating a home and workplace for people with intellectual disability. Melissa has also witnessed the passion and commitment to Sunnyfield by her father, Bryan Whiddon OAM and now contributes her skills and knowledge in the disability field to the ongoing growth of Sunnyfield. Melissa joined the Board in 2012 and is also a member of the Fundraising, Branding and Communications Committee and the Human Resources, Nomination and Remuneration Committee.
Heather recently retired from the Real Estate industry. She re-joined the Board in 2010 having previously served as a Director between 1996 and 2001. Heather is the Chair of the Housing, Property and Equipment Committee and is a Director of Gateway 2015 Properties Trust. Heather is also a member of the Fundraising, Branding and Communications Committee and would welcome hearing from families who would like to volunteer or have contacts that they feel might support our fundraising efforts. Heather has always felt strongly about the core values of Sunnyfield and saw the Board as an opportunity to be involved in policies to give people with disability the best life possible. Heather’s sister, June, accesses Sunnyfield Shared Living services.
Mike Nicholls BBA
Mike is currently the Head of Commercial Operations and Planning at Fox Sports and has over 10 years’ experience in the media and sports industry in a variety of executive management roles. Mike is responsible for commercial and distribution management with Fox Sports suppliers, commercial partners and advertisers, and leads the Program Management Office delivering major projects across IT, digital platforms and content distribution solutions. He has previously led sales, marketing and retail distribution for Optus and IAG for an additional 15 years. Mike has been a supporter of Sunnyfield through fundraising and his daughter Lola receives Sunnyfield respite and support services.
Malcolm Park BSc (Eng), FAICD
Mal was re-appointed to the Sunnyfield Board in 2011 having previously served as a Director between 2008 and 2010. He was the Chair of the Board from 2012 to 2016. His family have been involved with Sunnyfield since 1965 and his brother, Ian, works in Sunnyfield Enterprises and lives in Sunnyfield Shared Living. Mal has over 40 years’ experience in the power industry in a range of executive management roles. He has previously acted as a Principal Advisor to NSW Treasury on power industry matters. He has previously served on the Boards of a number of voluntary organisations as well as co-operative research centre Boards. Both Ian and Mal’s parents were involved in Sunnyfield in a voluntary capacity for many years and continues this involvement as a Director. Mal is also the Chair of the Human Resources, Nomination and Remuneration Committee and a member of the Housing, Property and Equipment Committee.
Tom Pockett BCom, FCA
Tom is Chair of Stockland Corporation Limited and Autosports Group Limited. He is also a Director of Insurance Australia Group Limited and O’Connell Street Associates. Previously Tom was Finance Director of Woolworths Limited, Deputy Chief Financial Officer at the Commonwealth Bank; General Manager Finance for Lend Lease Corporation and was with Chartered Accounting firm Deloitte. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (FCA). Tom is a member of the Housing, Property and Equipment Committee and a director of Independence Fund No 1 Limited, Independence Fund No 2 Limited and Gateway 2015 Properties Limited. Tom was appointed Deputy Chair in 2016.”The more I looked into Sunnyfield’s activities, the more I understood the wonderful and valuable part Sunnyfield plays in today’s society and I wanted to contribute and be a part of that.”
Ross Rathmell BEc, MAICD
Ross has over 30 years of financial and corporate experience in Australia and overseas, in both private and public listed companies. He has an economics degree and sporting Blue from Sydney University and over 10 years’ experience as a non-executive Director, including two ASX listed companies. Ross was appointed to the Board in 2010 after being aware of the work of Sunnyfield for many years. Ross is also Chair of the Audit, Finance and Risk Committee, and a director of Independence Fund No 1 Limited and Independence Fund No 2 Limited. He was previously Chair of the Human Resources, Remuneration and Nomination Committee for five years.
Clare Sowden BA, BArch
Clare is Director of Real Estate Development at PwC Australia, having previously held senior development management roles with Stockland and Mirvac. She has more than 15 years of real estate and related experience in the residential and urban renewal sector ranging from architectural design to the development and strategic review of large scale assets and sites. Clare holds an Honorary Academic role with UTS and is also an executive member of the Australian division of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), a global property institute focused on building sustainable, resilient communities. At ULI she chairs the Australian Young Leaders Group and sits on the Women’s Leadership Committee.Clare joined the Board in 2016 and is keen to contribute her commercial and property skills in support of Sunnyfield’s significant work undertaken to support the lives of individuals and families with disabilities.
